Internet Marketing - List Building Psychology
The frame of mind that a subscriber enters your list is important. There was a lady who had over 10,000 subscribers in her list but had very little conversions. She was very nice and because of that, was unable to monetise because she had given away too much and there was no more reason for folks to buy from her.
Marketing is about shifting paradigms in our heads. Is giving things away to build a list considered good? Yes. However, giving away too much, that is not good. In life, its about balancing on the edge of a sword. If we're too kind, or too selfish, if we deal in extremes, it will turn out to be a negative in the end.
So, we give, and we must also remember to take.
In this post, i'm going to share the different mindset for different methods of list building.
Survey Approach
Pros: The list builds very fast and very quick. People like to find out about themselves and when they interact and answer questions, they will provide their name and email to get the answers to the questions they answered. Very interesting, im personally not a fan of filling out questionaire and surveys, but I know now that many people do like to do so.
Curioisity Approach
This approach involves telling a prospect up front what they can expect to receive if they provide their details. Most people don't want to give away their details for fear of spam. If they feel however, there is information that they can gain, they will provide you with their details. The psychology of this optin is,"lets see what the 1st message is and I'll opt out if there is no value but spam."
This is a good approach and your 1st email should be a good one.
Value 1st Approach
This approach is to provide a video, audio, short write up on the landing page itself. By doing so, you will let your audience know the value you're providing them. Give enough to let them know that you're providing real information and people will give you their real details to get the rest. This optin is usually high converting because people know that you're offering something real and they want what you're offering.
Now, some people might have a problem doing this. A nice person MIGHT think, "that is deceptive, that I only give a little to whet their appetite so I can hook them."
Let me tweak this brain set a little.
There are many ways to look at a message. If we shift our line of thought from a "half empty to half full" cup way of thinking, we'll realise that human psychology is all about positioning ourselves, and our message in a unique perspective. Sometimes, the best way to think is just to keep it simple. If we try to phantom how everyone thinks and be something to everyone, its going to be very difficult to stay focused.
In this case, majority of the people who read your message WANT to know what you're giving before hand BEFORE parting with personal information. The best way to know this is for yourself to take note when you next come across a landing page of this kind.
Note how you felt after good information was provided to you. Did you feel conned that the author was tricking you into providing him your details? OR did you feel that the author has justified himself to ask that you register with your name and email and that if you liked the information and wanted to receive more.
ASA List Building
This final List building method is the ASA List Building Method. Its a high conversion method for use in Non Internet Marketing or MLM niches where I tell the prospect upfront that I'm going to be selling them something, plus they give me their details so that they can find out the product im selling.
This method will be made available to my customer list in the internet marketing niche.
