a) R9 290X Radeon (x 3)
At time of writing, Im able to get 950kh/s – 980kh/s from this video gaming card.
IMPORTANT: Look out for the R9 290X Battlefield 4 edition.
From my tests, you’ll want to get the Battlefield 4 Edition R9 290X Radeon as this is able to hit 950kh/s hash rates. After spending many hours tinkering with settings to optimise the non-battlefield 4 version, the best I could get was a max hashrate of 850kh/s. So if you are in the group that bought R9 290X Radeon and unable to attain the 1000kh/s hash rates other R9 290X miners are hitting even with an optimised config file setting, this should explain why.
My buddies and I have split test this and have similar findings.
remember to get the optimised version of R9 290X and enjoy better hash rates. higher hash rates means more $$$$.
b) Power Supply 1200KW
1200KW supports up to 3 video cards. I tested with (4) R9 290X video cards and the 4th card would not run.
c) CPU, RAM, Motherboard, Keyboad, Mouse, Monitor
d) Windows 7 or Linux (if you don’t have linux skills, no worries, Windows 7 or 8 works fine to give 950kh/s hash rates)
e) PCI-e Riser (x2)
this is an extension cable that connects your video card to the motherboard. From my tests, the main video card (the card where the video cable is connected to) needs to be sitting directly on the motherboard or the computer freezes up after 1 hour of mining.
Next, allow your other 2 cards to be connected to the motherboard using the x16-x16 PCI-e Riser.
Risers are CRUCIAL to get those 1000 kh/s hash rates because the heat generated per R9 290x Radeon gaming video card is around 94 degree celcius. If the cards are seated too close to each other on the mother board, 2 bad things will happen…
– the computer will freeze up and reboot….
– the hash speed decreases drastically
So invest in PCI-e Risers.
f) CGMiner (this is the program you run to start mining, no programming is required)
g) Dogecoin Wallet, Litecoin Wallet, Bitcoin Wallet
Visit their official sites and download the correct files for your Macbook or Windows.
One important note, i noticed the wallets support 32bit Windows OS. So if you’re running 64 bit Windows, from my tests, I had trouble synchronizing with the network and there would be error messages. My solution was to download the macbook version of the wallets and save the coins to my macbook instead.
